  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 package wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Sweet chili sauce, for dipping (optional)

Method
 

  1. Marinate shrimp with soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic powder for 15 minutes.
  2. Place one marinated shrimp in the center of a wonton wrapper.
  3. Brush the edges of the wonton wrapper with beaten egg.
  4. Fold the wonton wrapper over the shrimp, pressing firmly to seal.
  5. Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the wonton wrapped shrimp until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the shrimp and drain excess oil on a paper towel-lined plate.
  8. Serve immediately with sweet chili sauce, if desired.

Notes

Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to achieve a crispy texture. Do not overcrowd the pot when frying.
